Най-скъпата книга

Знаеш, че си падаме по четенето, ама чак толкова скъпа книга нямаме... Става дума за екземпляр на книгата "Птиците на Америка" от 1840 г. на известния американски орнитолог, натуралист и художник Джон Одюбън. Въпросната книжка беше продадена за 7 922 000 долара на търг, организиран от аукционната къща Кристи (Christies), съобщиха организаторите на търга.

"Птиците на Америка" бе представена на търга като най-скъпата книга.

На 35-годишна възраст Джон Одюбън решил да изобрази всички птици на континента. Той трябвало да ги отстрелва, а после ги е пресъздавал в абсолютно естествени пози. "Пернатият свят" на Америка включва над 400 илюстрации, рисувани от Одюбън. Размерът на илюстрациите е 99 на 66 сантиметра. Ентусиастът е открил и описал 25 нови видове птици.

Общо са били издадени 120 екземпляра от книгата, а нейни абонати са били много известни хора от 19 век, включително френския крал Карл X. Първото издание на книгата е печатано на части от 1827 до 1838 г. в шотландската столица Единбърг и британската Лондон. В началото на 1840 г. в САЩ излиза второто й издание. Те са признати за шедьоври на книжното дело и библиографска рядкост.
